Tips to Keep Your Kids Safe in Summer Camp

Sending your kids off to summer camp can be exciting but also stressful as you want to make sure that your child is safe and comfortable while they are away from you. Here are a few tips to help you prepare so your kids can have a fun, comfortable and safe camping experience.

  • Do not leave preparing for summer camp for the last minute. Plan ahead to make sure that you do not forget anything.
  • Read all checklists and documents that the summer camp sends to ensure that you comply with the camp rules. Talk to your kids about the rules and regulations and let them know that they must follow them properly.
  • Label everything. Kids can often be careless or too excited, and they can end up losing their belongings. Make sure that everything your camper carries is properly labeled with their name or initials so that their belongings do not end up lost or in another camper’s trunk.
  • Never forget to pack sunscreen. Instruct your child to apply sunscreen throughout the day. A waterproof sunscreen with SPF 30 is recommended.
  • Prepare your kids for camp chores – making their beds, taking responsibility for their own personal hygiene, picking up after themselves, etc. Fostering independence ahead of time will help your camper gets accustomed to the chores that they will be responsible for at camp.
  • Warn them about “stranger danger.” Tell them never to talk to strangers and to always stick to their camp group and not wander off anywhere by themselves.

This summer, give your children a special gift by sending them to a summer camp. It will be an educational and enriching experience that they will not forget for a long time. Summer camps allow your children to learn while having the time of their lives.
