The attentive landscape of the mountains makes trekking joyful. The trail goes zigzag at first with bushes then dense forests continue to enchant the way. It could be a good acclimatization hike till the first camping site at Thoti. Though the distance isn’t so long and can be reached in 2-3 hours. The camp is surrounded with trees of Cedar with fabulous scenery ahead. Explore around the campsite watch sunset painting the sky and sleep well in the tents.

Day 3.  Thoti – Maili Thach

As day rises have a healthy breakfast and start trekking to the higher camp at Maili Thach. The steep trail continues through forests of Cedar and Pine and the sunlight coming through the trees creates magical moment to rejoice the nature. Trekking higher on the verdant meadows opens up the broad setting ready to be seen. These meadows will leave the trees behind and after hours of trekking one will reach at Maili Thach somewhere by the evening. The vista at this place is mesmerizing with whole of the valley stretching far away along the river Beas. The great valley view becomes interesting mostly in the evenings when the sky is with full of colours. In the evening a Bonfire can be done too. Sleep tight in the tents at Maili Thach.

Day 4. Maili Thach – Saurkundi Lake (3,909m.) – Maili Thach

Next morning give an early start towards the Saurkundi Lake. The route is moderate gradient to steep in between. The vast meadows keep going along all the way till the lake. These meadows are fully covered with colorful wild flowers, a perfect sight to be at. En route the moraines ridge will be faced. The boulders and rocks here are so huge that reminds of a prehistoric time. At this moraine point is the most interesting round stone said to be carved and brought up by the ‘Pandavas’ to build a wind mill. It seems right by looking at the stone, cause no human today can lift or move this stone at his own and bring at such height. Going forward leads to another meadow of fascination. The trail becomes gentler just before approaching the lake. Once reached at the lake one can see the shape of the lake as the name suggests “Saurkundi” “A lake in the shape of a frying pan”. Watching the lake a bit from above would reveal the fact of its name called as Saurkundi. It is a holy lake sacred to the thousands of people in the valley. Littering and creating noise is strictly prohibited near the lake. Spend some time taking pictures and having refreshments. Then return back the same way to the camp. Night halt in the camps at Maili Thach.

Day 5.  Maili Thach – Thoti –  Shangcher – Base camp

Trek back trailing the same route to the Shangcher village. Descending to road head will take 3-4 hours. Hop in the vehicle waiting to drive the pack back to the base camp. Reach the camp and move to your preferred destinations.
